This painting tells the story of a lone sailor navigating a vast ocean. A prominent black line tells the story of a large wave: a trial period the sailor has crossed, or is yet to cross— depending on the interpretation of the viewer. Though his path may appear solitary and uncertain, the work explores the conscious and unconscious forces that guide, protect, and help move us forward. Different figures depict the community, memories, ancestors, and spiritual beliefs that we carry with us through the most significant moments in our lives.

36 x 48 inches. Acrylic on canvas.
